Re: [SOLVED] Problem installing icewm-utils from AUR due to qt3 fail to build

I have now upgraded it to IceWM 1.6.1, which is the latest and greatest version of IceWM. That is one thing nice about the Arch based distros, is that they tend to get the newest versions of packages available very early compared to released based distros. I may try again with ArcoLinuxD as I found ...

Re: [OPEN] ACPI error during booting ISO

Is your BIOS up to date? That would be the first thing to check, IMO.

Use your phone to record the screen going by all the way to the error. Maybe you can find clues there that you can use to search for an answer.

Re: [OPEN] kernel panic at boot

Having fought that one, it should be no surprise to you that Eric is correct that if you don't have any other systems on the drive you boot off of, there won't be a problem in the first place. If you want to install other OS(s), then you need to let one of the Arch based distros control the boot. Th...

Re: [OPEN] Arco Linux on HP OMEN ce018np issues

Sad to say I use DFU or DBU (its improved clone) many days, still.

Small world, huh?

I'm not allowed to use the Lin*x word at work. I call it QSH, LOL. They don't know.

Re: [OPEN] Arco Linux on HP OMEN ce018np issues

I backed up the windows and made a rescue boot for it, and tested it. I cleaned up unused files from the windows drive. I defragmented it and then reduced its partition size smaller but with a good safety margin . I loaded the root of my main Linux system and a swap drive equal to memory size onto t...

Re: [OPEN] Arco Linux on HP OMEN ce018np issues

I don't do much graphics intensive work.

The games I play are simple stuff, but I have a 4k 43 inch big screen for it to drive with its HDMI video output.

As long as it's good enough for Pac Man or Galaxians, I'll be happy. I don't know what mide its going to use.

Re: [OPEN] Arco Linux on HP OMEN ce018np issues

I booted my Dell Inspiron XPS 15-7559 with Arcolinux 19.04 by adding the string below to the boot line after hitting Tab to edit the line from the boot screen. Without it, it failed to boot, with it, I'm running fine, typing from it now. Manjaro will not boot at all no matter what I tried. acpi_osi=...

Re: [OPEN] Arco Linux on HP OMEN ce018np issues

I found those are required for my linux systems with the fancy nVidia/Intel graphics from different manufacturers. The acpi_osi ones fix the boot and the i915 one fixes problems suspending and resuming. I found that different kernels may or may not require them, and in those cases, if I see an error...

Re: [OPEN] Arco Linux on HP OMEN ce018np issues

Try adding to your boot line:
acpi_osi=! acpi_osi=Windows i915_preliminary_hw_support=1

oops, typo!!!
acpi_osi=! acpi_osi=Windows i915.preliminary_hw_support=1

note the dot, not underscore.

[SOLVED] Problem installing icewm-utils from AUR due to qt3 fail to build

I'm new here. I tried Arcolinux briefly with openbox, and decided since I really like IceWM, to try making a set of scripts to install it. I used ArcolinuxD and copied the arco-openbox setup, and changed the scripts to instead install icewm. I have it pretty much working, now, all installs done by t...
