[SOLVED] libidn2.so.4: cannot open shared object file

Post by lourens » Fri Jan 18, 2019 9:54 am

Thank you for correcting my post :D

I decided to download the latest arco-xmonad-master from github and re-run the ArchWay scripts and the situation has deteriorated.

Code: Select all

[lourens@arcolinuxd ArchWay]$ ./30-add-arcolinux-repo-to-pacman-conf-v4.sh
Getting the latest arcolinux mirrors file
[sudo] password for lourens:
warning: wget-1.20.1-2 is up to date -- skipping
there is nothing to do
wget: error while loading shared libraries: libidn2.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

[lourens@arcolinuxd ArchWay]$ update
[sudo] password for lourens:
pacman: error while loading shared libraries: libidn2.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

[lourens@arcolinuxd arco-xmonad-master]$ yay -Ss pacman
yay: error while loading shared libraries: libidn2.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Now I'm stumped with no pacman ...
I found this but do not know how to use the information?

Code: Select all

https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/61414
Details
Description:
libidn2 2.1.0 replaces /usr/lib/libidn2.so.0 with /usr/lib/libidn2.so.4
After a recent update, binaries remain linked against /usr/lib/libidn2.so.0
Is this a "wait for Maintainer" situation ?? ;)

Change the title of your question here - I have moved this to ArcoLInuxB Xmonad
Are you trying to build anything?
Are you going to phase 5 Arch Linux installation?

Give us as much info as possible.

for now get new mirrors in and update your system

Code: Select all

mirrors
update

Hi Erik
Before reading your response I tried a few things that I outlined in a posting, probably still with the Moderator. :)

Following your suggestions I successfully ran mirrors but then

Code: Select all

[lourens@arcolinuxd pacman.d]$ sudo pacman -S arcolinux-mirrorlist-git
pacman: error while loading shared libraries: libidn2.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
[lourens@arcolinuxd pacman.d]$ update
[sudo] password for lourens:
pacman: error while loading shared libraries: libidn2.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
The errors that I outlined in my previous post.

Thanks

Hi,
I am a little confused with the topic being shifted around and what appears to be a delay between responding and viewing your response and so on - I only saw your initial response after posting an updated error report -

This is a new ArcoLinux Xmonad instalation using arcolinuxd-v18.12.7.iso and
the arco-xnomad scripts downloaded on 08/01/2019 from Github - the only O/S on a new hdd.
I started off wanting to do : update - skel - pksyua before installing Virtualbox.
update sync'd core, extra, community, multilib before the following erros

Code: Select all

error: failed to update arcolinux_repo_submicron (unexpected error)
error: failed to synchronize all databases
I then encountered the

Code: Select all

error while loading shared libraries: libidn2.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
this is referenced error an a reference to it in Arch bugs.
FS#61414 - [libidn2] version 2.1.0 breaks many packages
Description:
libidn2 2.1.0 replaces /usr/lib/libidn2.so.0 with /usr/lib/libidn2.so.4
After a recent update, binaries remain linked against /usr/lib/libidn2.so.0
After this, following your directions:
'mirrors" was successful but

Code: Select all

lourens@arcolinuxd pacman.d]$ sudo pacman -S arcolinux-mirrorlist-git
pacman: error while loading shared libraries: libidn2.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
[lourens@arcolinuxd pacman.d]$ update
[sudo] password for lourens:
pacman: error while loading shared libraries: libidn2.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Presently 'yay' does not work either
Is this a 'wait for Maintainer' problem or a download ArcoLinux B Xnomad v19-01.4 solution?

Prior to this I was thoroughly enjoying my first Xmonad experience.

Thanks for all your work!
