[SOLVED] How to permanently change a parameter when booting ?

Hello, thank you for reading me.

My laptop freezes very often after boot at the connection step.
To get rid of this issue I found out a workaround : erasing the word 'quiet' in the line "linux" in the boot instructions set (after 'ro') and it seems to make the trick pretty well each time I erase it before booting.

Now, to avoid doing this at each boot I would like to keep this word 'quiet' erased without having to make the manipulation at each boot and without having to make it again either when a new kernel is updated.

Can someone tell me how ?

Thank you in advance.

Thierry.

My guess is that you are changing the grub.

So you need to investigate how grub is created.

/etc/default/grub

Thank you for your reply.

True, I modify the grub entry by editing it, suppressing "quiet" in the 'linux' item.

Your link is quite a lot of reading with tricky consequences if the change fails...

The "/etc/default/grub" file doesn't seems to be the one to edit since hardly every line in it is commented (#). There is no mention of the 'quiet' word in it.

Please, can you save me time and bad issues telling me which exact file do I have to edit to remove the 'quiet' parameter at boot.

Or maybe should I use the program "grub-customizer", which may be risky too maybe... ?

Thank you.

Thank you for your reply Erik.

(a lot a reading in the link !)

The easiest way I found was to go through "grub-customizer" program, 2nd tab, & remove the 'quiet' boot parameter then save and reload and exit.

It made the trick but I wonder if it will be the same after the next kernel update...

Thank you.

I thought I saw quiet in my file... but great that it is solved for you.

Solution for other readers.

Use grub-customizer to change grub.
Standard installed on ArcoLinux.
