[SOLVED WITH LTS] Can't install - Black Screen appears while iso on flash drive loads

Post by dhinds » Mon Jul 15, 2019 8:25 pm

Since ArcoLinux is running so well on the laptop I decided to install in the main desktop computer but after the iso begins loading the screen goes black and a no signal message appears.

This may be related to the NVida 340.xx card installed. (The same thing occurs with all recent Fedora isos).

Is there a way around this?

TIA

Download an iso of your choice with the letter lts in it and see if this will help

I'll try that.
Is the arcolinuxb-qtile iso the LXQt version?

If so, does that include the xfce version also? (I assume not).

Another doubt:

I see that unetbootin is one of the recommended methods for installation. Manjaro advises against unetbootin and I have been using dd from calculate-linux lxqt (which lacks suse image write or another usb iso burner).

Does that mean unetbootin will work for burning arcolinux iso images to a usb flash drive?

TIA

Qtile is another desktop as LXQt.

Different iso.

Now you just need to choose a desktop you like with lts in the name.

That is the test.

Since we have a working ArcoLinux we are burning our iso's with mintstick application.

I hear etcher is also working but dd is bound to work always - just a bit more technical in the terminal that is all.

Unlike the non lts iso, options for graphics cards are provided. By choosing the noveau option I was able to continue.

The desktops I've used most are xfce, openbox and LXQt and the first lts iso I downloaded and burned with Arco's usb burner is the latter.

I'm using it now and will continue, to install it on a desktop computer built from components in 2010 with a Gigabyte X58 motherboard and an 1st generation i7.

It was one of the first with usb 3 and sata 6 and an adequate bios was never created for it so it has given me problems with a few issues. (Other than that it runs well).

After burning the qtile lts iso to a usb flas drive using arcos usb image writer and then choosing to use the noveau video driver I was able to install and reboot into the installed distro.

However: I was unable to activate a menu to perform anything except update it.

This may be related to the fact that I am using a TV instead of a monitor and some things may be located off screen. Right clicking on the background produced no effect either.

So I download the acrolinus lts iso and installed it too to the desktop computer, with almost full success so far. (That's what I'm using to write this, running the Brave web browser from AUR).

The only thing that failed so far was installing openoffice (which I was able to do on the thinkpad), and then libreoffice also. (I even installed a flatpak version of libreoffice too).

So far so good, in the main.
