I have installed ArcoLinux on NVME SSDs' I actually have two 500GB NVME SSDs one of which is holding root and the other /home. I manually created the partitions using UEFI. No problems at all for me.

Hello Chm0d,

i am in a similar situation. I have an NVMe SSD but the calamares installer does not detect the NVMe SSD.
The NVMe SSD in my laptop connected to the PCIe Bus.
Can you share with me your disk setup ? Thanks a lot.

Regards

I see that there was an issue in the past and that it is solved.

https://github.com/calamares/calamares/issues/498

If this is a new issue maybe you should open a issue on their github and ask the support on Calamares.

They better understand what their calamares application does or does not do.

My issue is exactly the opposite of yours. Calamares sees my NVMe SSD and installs it fine. The problem comes when I try to boot into ArcoLinux I'm met with this error.

Code: Select all

ERROR: device'UUID=28695fbd-..... not found. Skipping fsck

Code: Select all

mount: /new_root: can't find UUID=28695fbd...

Code: Select all

you are now being dropped into an emergency shell
I don't mean to hijack this thread but I've been researching this error for days now to no avail and I seriously want to use AcroLinux on my work PC. I found similar errors on Manjaro and Antegros forums but they are beyond my level of understanding. Users are installing, then booting into a live CD, arch-chrooting into the system and rebuilding grub.

What amazes me is why Calamares can not only see my drive but install ArcoLinux there but the newly installed system files can't find the drive after that.

I may try to BYOI but I'm afraid that if I spend all that time doing so, I'll just end up with the same error. My installation goes without a hitch. No errors.

I wonder if I select a manual partition setup?
My grub.cfg is trying to mount the correct UUID. I’ve confirmed that much.

Sorry to vent but I'd rather be using AL as my daily driver and as of right now I can only use it in a VM.

Thanks,

Tell me what device you purchased.
None of us have ever bought it.

If the opportunity presents itself, I can buy the same hardware.
Personally I would buy myself a samsung NVMe.

This would be my choice (budget wise to test).

I've tried two NVMe SSD's so far with no luck. First one was a Toshiba KXG50ZV1T02 and now I'm trying to test with a Samsung 970 EVO.

Calamares can see it fine and install ArcoLinux onto it but when I try to boot to it, it can't find the drive.

The only OS i have on another drive is Ubuntu which installs without a hitch (and I would like to part ways with and replace with ArcoLinux). I removed the Ubuntu SSD so that only the Samsung is installed just to be sure and still, no luck. I'm fairly certain that this is not an SSD compatibility issue at all since Ubuntu will run on them.

This begs the question; Calamares can see my drives while the installed boot files cannot but why?

Thanks!
