[OPEN] Arco Linux on HP OMEN ce018np issues

Post by lopoalmeida » Sun Dec 30, 2018 5:52 pm

Having several issues with Arco Linux and my laptop.

The official specs are at https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05682497

First, it can only boot if I choose noapic acpi=off on kernel loading
Even with that option I have the following issues:

1. With ArcoLinux 18.12 Deepin I got the error you can see at viewtopic.php?t=808

2. With ArcoLinux 18.12 Cinnamon (and Gnome, Plasma) the keyboard and touchpad are not recognized. Needed to attach an external USB keyboard and mouse in order to use it. On GRUB the keyboard works but as soon as login screen is reached it does not work anymore.

3. Also it seems it does not recognizes that this is an quad core processor:

Code: Select all

$ cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep 'model name' | uniq

I guess you have "bad" hardware.

I would google with my laptop name and arch linux.

and see what comes up.

Not all hardware works on Arch Linux.

Did install Bumblebee as posted on another thread and rebooted with no avail.

keyboard and touchpad still not working.

also result of inxi below still only fnding 1 core.

Well. Interesting thing.

When booting from Live to install I must have noapic acpi=off and use an external mouse and keyboard, but after installed I must remove those options in order to have my touchpad and internal keyboard working and my octa core recognized.

Very odd :-)

Now only need to poke a little bit more with Bumblebee to make it work too.

Will continue to post here my findings and hope others could shad some more light to this. When all solved I'll close it.

Yep. A little.

We'll. None boots live without noapic acpi=off and external kbd and mouse. I think this may be a problem on the base XFCE distro.

The rest is as follows:
  1. with Deepin won't boot the live, not even with the trick noapic acpi=off and external usb kbd e mouse.
  2. with Gnome boot the live but freezes on desktop loading (LDM passes)
  3. with Cinnamon installed and works w/o external keyboard and mouse. Don't know if it has something to do with kernel being 20 and not 19. Didn't manage to make Bumblebee to work. It seems that I may have installed something wrong: have Bumblebee, NVidia driver and Mesa installed but cannot use optimus
  4. with Plasma installed but now freezes on log in on network as you can see at
Going to try to reinstall Cinnamon hence it was the only one that worked and continue to try to understant HOW Bumblebee would work so I can choose when to use the Intel graphics or the NVidia graphics.

But the issue is that I would prefer to have Gnome instead of Cinnamon since I'm used to it :-)

Reading this is sounds to be a graphical driver issue... but iso's are basically the same - desktops differ - kernel may differ on the moment it has been build but if you can find what drivers you need and which not

then you can build your own iso with all the lego blocks you need for your hardware

What is odd is that if the base for the Live is always the same distro XFCE why in some cases it works and another cases don't.
I think this shouldn't happen, right?

After installing it would be another subject because different DE deal differently with the graphics card. And there I agree with you that it would require a different investigation.

You can compare the builds of all iso's on github.
They are basically the same but not 100%

Yes. I will continue investigating this until I found any solution :-)

Hopefully soon we can close it as SOLVED, but not yet :D
