I sure hope other new users get to this post before the time it took for ME to get here. I go back to early Mandrake Linux, and later Gentoo, so I tend to wrestle, search, and wrestle some more before I hit a solution to a thorny problem.
I have to feed this to Arch and upstream too. Spent 2 days installing different Arco iso's on my desktop, netbook, and Lenovo laptop. (have used Arch on two other laptops as well). The Lenovo (320-15ABS) screen would freeze during and after install. Mouse worked, switch to TTY and back and clicks and key entries would then show up on screen (was being written to 'back screen' but not posting to 'front screen' in xorg. When mouse action or keyboard entry was performed, switch out and switch back, the actions results could be seen (text entry, next button, etc) but pop up windows like for wifi connection could not be seen.
After install the same behaviors would be seen if the screen blanked from power control or if I switched out to TTY and back. Then was frozen display til double swap or restarted xorg server. Then good til one of the two triggers happened again. FINALLY got the LTS Arco installed and Awesome added to it, AND installed the LTS kernel (with headers and docs of course - hehe).
LO AND BEHOLD!! freezing is gone. Next steps are to see what the difference was. Oh, was pretty sure it was kernel or video drivers, as Debian, Mint, OpenSUSE, and um, err, one more I forgot, had no issues with that notebook but all arch offshoots I tried in last few weeks did. hehehehe. Yeah, I do like to play.
Many many many thanks. I absolutely love what I see you've been doing and regret not visiting way back when it was ArchMerge.
