[SOLVED] Try to add a second screen to my PC

Post by Patrick_Fr » Thu Jul 26, 2018 7:07 pm

Hello Everybody,
I am not sure if my post is in the right place, do not hesitate to move it if necessary...
I am trying to add a second screen to my *Loved* Arcolinux PC.
My motherboard is a MSI Z170A with an Intel HD Graphics chipset.
My main screen is plugged on a good old Radeon HD 7870.with only one DVI port.
So I plugged my secondary screen (an old DVI) on my motherboard, on the intel HD graphics port.
But on boot, this screen is not detected (no signal on DVI port).
I think the intel HD graphics is disabled when Linux find another graphic card.
And I suppose there should be a way with xorg to active it even with a graphic card, but I have no idea about how to proceed and I didn't found anything about this with google.
I am running arcolinux XFCE.
Any help welcome...

Hi,

I'm not sure it will help, but before fiddling with any X settings, please check if this configuration is enabled on BIOS:

Primary GPU: PCI Express
IGPU Multi-monitor: Enabled

This will ensure that both are detected by the linux Kernel.

Good luck!

Sorry, I missed your post...
I just found a hard fix, buying a dvi-hdmi cable to plug my second monitor to the hdmi port of my graphic ATI card and it works fine.
Thanks for your help. :-)
