[SOLVED] open folder as root

Im gonna try to explain this the best I can. New to to arcolinux and xfce. I have searched for this issue here and google but couldnt find anything specific. The other night, my laptop went black while I was editing some icons in a theme to make them a little darker. the only thing I could do was to shut it down and reboot. Upon login, I had no window decoration and the screen was stuck on 4 split desktops with the lightDM wallpaper.(I believe from compiz which I uninstalled) after uninstalling compiz the DE would load but the panel would disappear. Deleted the sessions directory in the home folder, re setup everything, but for some reason when I try to open an directory as root in thunar and enter my password, the window flashes and disappears?

Looks like you have learned a lot and have changed a lot.
Best advice for us and you is to start over and do a clean install.
I believe that it is in your favor to be honest

None of the things you say make sense to me.

Thanks for the reply Erik, arcolinux is awesome! Basically I was unable to right click on /usr and open that directory as root user. I could choose "open folder as root" and enter my root password but but the root instance would just flash an empty window and nothing would show up. There was an update before this happened and from googling it seemed that dbus was the culprit, but didn't know what to check from there. About 10 min. ago another update came through and dbus user authentication was in the update. when update was done I got a warning that something was different in /var/lib/AccountServices. I hit close on the message, rebooted and it seems I can open folder as root and the window opens. maybe it was the dbus update? here is the contents of that user file just in casesomething isnt right, and the warning message mentioned permissions 755, and 700.

Also, is there a reason that when you do open an instance of thunar as root, there are no folder icons or image previews?... just mimetype icons for everything.

When you open thunar as root, you will have the same icons as what is on the iso.

19.03 will have Sardi-Arc
anything before that will have Sardi Mono Colora

Copy/paste /etc/skel to /root to fix it.

Thanks.. copied skel to /root, still no icon theme(could be my icon theme/using AwOken Dark. Ill look into that). The weird thing is now when I right click in the root mode of thunar window, it vanishes. Had to copy skel from terminal which is fine, but everything seems to be working eccept this right click issue only in root mode. Would like to avoid fresh install just because of that. Any thoughts what could cause this?

Well I guess its was the AwOken icon theme also causing the root window to vanish on right click. Im guessing because the icon theme cache cannot be updated. Sorry for the confusion.

I got the AwOken icon theme to work in case anyone else is interested. you have to follow the instructions to the "T" or you will be missing icons. everything is working now. Thanks Erik.
