You can always go check the lightdm.conf online on our github and compare.

NOT solved

Post by kbyte255 » Fri May 18, 2018 5:49 pm

I also encountered this problem on one of my laptops. Sony with Nvidia card, although I am not using the proprietary driver.
After yesterdays update, I enter password, screen goes black then returns to login screen.
I am able to log into Openbox.

I tried downgrading the xorg* updates to prior versions but this did not solve the problem. Being comfortable with Openbox, I am not hurt by this, but would like to understand what is wrong and correct is without a re-install. Checked the previously mentioned things and find nothing that would cause this issue.

My other laptop is all Intel and the problem did not occur with it.

I launched all my hardware here.

So far my MacBookPro has the same symptoms

Possible to login to Openbox
Possible to login to I3

NOT possible to login to XFCE

The hunt is on. Here it is evening. Something for tomorrow.

Hi

Now again, I can not login to xfce on my main computer.

So I said to myself, that I will reinstall everything.
I did a complete new arco 6.7 installation and everything went OK, BUT after pksyua update, I could not login to xfce as before.
Must be a issue with incompatible hardware on my main computer. My laptop with arcolinux runs well and have no issue to login to xfce-4.

Strange problem. My laptop has intel graphic card and my main computer has Nvidia. My keybord is OK.

Hi

A tip to what I found of this problem.

As I have on my main computer an internal Inter graphic card, I took out my Nvidia card that I used to have.
When I tried to log in to xfce, there was no issue and xfce environment showed up.

This problem has also to do with nvidia card on computers.
Probably a new nvidia driver is an issue for not be able to log in to xfce.

I was able to solve the XFCE login by downgrading.

The application downgrade is available on ArcoLinux.

I am now on xorg-server 1.19.6-2 and xorg-server-common 1.19.6-2.

MAKE BACKUPS VIA OPENBOX OR I3 before proceeding. YOU NEVER KNOW.

Code: Select all

downgrade xorg-server-common

Code: Select all

downgrade xorg-server
You will get a lot of question to remove drivers. I agreed to this.

These two files are now blocked in my /etc/pacman.conf. It is a question you will get a the end of the downgrade procedure.

Let me know if this fixes it.

Hi

This issue is NOW SOLVED.

I did according to your instructions.
I am now on xorg-server 1.19.6-2 and xorg-server-common 1.19.6-2.

Even with my Nvidia graphics cards on my main computer.

I did not stop there...
I think the xf86-video-nouveau needs to be removed.

Then you can upgrade to the latest version of Xorg. At least here on a Macbookpro.

It might be that the latest xorg and xf86-video-nouveau are in conflict.

Need more testing to confirm this.

If someone has the time to test...
