[SOLVED] screen scaling/DPI

Post by eesau » Thu Apr 25, 2019 5:22 pm

Hi

My new 4k monitor shows everything very small, is it possible to scale things down in Bspwm? Or what is the recommended method, because i've tried few things already, found DPI setting in Arco settings (didn't do anything), tried to manually change DPI in xorg.conf, but the the system didn't boot. I also read Arch Wiki article of Xorg, display size and DPI section, and tried suggested methods, but they didn't seem to work either. Or i did something wrong, but Arco didn't boot anyway. Reversed things in tty.

I've Nvidia card and proprietary driver installed.

I've set polybar bigger, it's ok now, but many other things are still veeeeery small.

EDIT: Found the solution: added custom fonts to .xresources, now things are ok.

Well, not every app shows ok still i noticed. For example Spotify and PCManFM. Spotify all in all and PCManFM navigation buttons (back, forward etc) are too small. Fonts and icons are ok in PCManFM. Same with Thunar.

And that is why I have not bought a monitor like that.
You read all kinds of these posts over the internet.
It does not seem to be quite ready for this piece of hardware.

Thanks Erik.

It's ok, certainly not going back to full desktops still. :)

Got it. The solution is this (with the custom fonts in .Xresources):
Create and edit a file in /etc/profile.d/ using nano

sudo nano /etc/profile.d/gtk3-hidpi.sh
and add these lines to it

export GDK_SCALE=2
export GDK_DPI_SCALE=0.5

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Hi ... 3_(GTK+_3)

And in my case, i switched PCManFM to GTK3 -version which works fine now.
