[SOLVED] ArcoD-Awesome can't build Polybar

Post by Imaviva » Thu Jun 14, 2018 8:21 pm

Hi Erik and Forum.
Sorry for the noob question, but I can't finish well my installation because its yield in a vanilla Awesome. With my other two laptops with ArcoD-Bspwm this not happen. The stage missed in Awesome is that with green CXX build, and stuff like that. So, how can install Awesome with its proper Polybar besides my Bspwm safely? What happens with Awesome? Please, help. Thanks.

If memory serves Awesome does not have polybar.
Bspwm has it.

Please, Erik. You understand. I can't get the beautiful custom panel after the fresh installation. I get traditional vanilla awesomewm panel, not the customized panel. With ArcoD-Bspwm no problem. I will try again with other laptop... But, with ArcoD-Bspwm running, how can I install ArcoD-Awesome beside, selected in the Login Manager?

Just follow the steps to install it and skip the ones that are the same.
Lightdm will see that there are two of them.

Still not sure what you are trying to do.

I guess use polybar menu on awesome instead of the standard menu for awesome.

That is not our idea nor do we support it.But ofcourse you are welcome to try.

Use the awesome menu and change it.

The title says can't build polybar -- is it an issue of not being able to build or not being able to use the polybar in awesome?

It was a mistake, Erik. Now I know that the Awesome panel is not a Polybar (forget all about Polybar). Resuming, the question is: if a I not get the customized blueish PANEL after the fresh complete successful installation and, instead, I get the vanilla traditional PANEL , how can I trigger the ArcoD bluish custom PANEL? That's all, Erik.
On the other hand, I resolved to install normally my third ArcoD-Bspwm, and all worked successfully and then well configured for my basic little workflow with Xterminals, editors (neovim, emacs), programs and Latex. Now, if you have time to explain me amd only if you want, how can I install ArcoD-Awesome (and ArcoD-I3) next to my Bspwm? Just clone it and run the proper scripts? Do I need to make some new folders or the cloned scripts do all the work automatically?
Thanks for Erik for the attention to my noob problem.

You may need to read this.

https://arcolinuxd.com/8-how-to-change- ... n-awesome/

As for mixing different DE that will be ok for 90% of the time.

But logging out of your system is done via oblogout - they differ.

Best NOT to mix and maybe install them on a separate partition or separate ssd.

You will run into problems. Being a noob like you say, you will get frustrated.

And our goal is learn, enjoy and have fun. ... so better not mix
