[SOLVED] autologin screen blank

Post by gregg0 » Wed Nov 21, 2018 12:28 am

I'm happy to report a successful bare metal install of arcolinuxd-i3. :geek:
The video was super helpful. Thanks

However now ( I've done several restarts ) I get a blank grey autologin(?) screen; no input field; no text; no blinking cursor. Fortunately, during the install, I submitted my password, which must've been 'recorded' and thus when I type my username in the mysterious grey screen I am taken immediately to the i3 desktop, no password required. It works, but feels a bit wrong. I'd rather just land at the tty console if I'm going to have to type anything.

I had a look at:

Code: Select all

800-autologin-v3.sh
and am guessing it has something to do with:

Code: Select all

/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf
but I'm kind of at a loss once I lay eyes on that file.

Any ideas why this is happening, and/or how to disable autologin would be appreciated.

Seen the other post I guess you solved the issue of the AUR helper or installed i3wm instead.
Can we close that one? What did you decide to do?

We have packages to show us the lightdm manager on ArcoLinux and have a great login screen.

The standard lightdm is there but you need to install minimum 2 elements

Code: Select all

sudo pacman -S lightdm lightdm-gtk-greeter
or

Code: Select all

sudo pacman -S lightdm lightdm-gtk-greeter lightdm-gtk-greeter-settings

If it is ArcoLinuxD you started with and used our script then script 600 seems not to have run completely.

But I understood you were working with Arch Linux - Phase 5.

Thanks for the spices! ;)
I am currently sprinkling them on my new Arch install. The i3-steps-next desktop is very bland without them.

Great! I'll have a look at those, and dive into that 600 script. Thank you!
I did comment out something during the ( ArcoLinuxD ) install, because it was looping. Pages or Paper something. I will read the script and see. Note to self: leave a comment when you comment out some code. You may need to un-comment it later.

But I'm going to look at all the various videos and posts about how to make use of them. Thanks.
