[CLOSED] number of ArcoLinux in lsb-release

Post by airbutre » Sat Mar 16, 2019 10:40 pm

Hey guys,
i've upgraded from 19.2-to-19.3 as discribed in the video tutorial
https://arcolinux.com/how-to-update-any ... y-rolling/

What makes me sure to have Arco 19.3. running? I'm using ArcoLinuxB-deepin-min and the version in the ControlCenter of Deepin is still 19.02.4 :?

I was wondering the same. I ran the rolling update script and neofect is still showing 19.02.4. I asked on YT but haven't seen a reply from Erik.

After you run the scripts, and make the necessary changes to stay rolling, if you want to change the release number from 19.02.4 to 19.03.3 for example, you have to do it manually. Just goto /etc/lsb-release and change line 3 to DISTRIB_RELEASE=v19.03.3

I know that manual update of /etc/lsb-release, but i remeber those friendly words of erik on a similar topic
viewtopic.php?f=117&t=1099

Well, hoping that my following words are being not too rude ....

if a software is able to stay rolling, it is imho super essential to get the info from the system what release is running on the pc
on the other hand it's super unimportant to add more or less funny scripts, that no one is asking for (bonsai, etc...), adding more and more icons and themes etc...
if i edit /etc/lsb-release with a fiction number, i will be the first with rel. 25.05.5 or whatever i edit manually in that file

i recommend: please concentrate on the essential things first, the fun will start later.

Changing the number is utterly unimportant.

It is what you do to have a rolling system that matters.

For ArcoLinux it is just a mark point.

We could name it "Rolling" and never look at it again .... ever.

This is what Arch Linux does.

This number gives us an indication how OLD the system is.

If users do not change the number we know what he/she will be facing when updating.
