[OPEN] slow response of Fn keys (brightness and volume)

Post by Draden Geralt » Mon Sep 16, 2019 11:43 am

Hello,

I am new to this forum, and I apologize if I opened this topic at the wrong place.

I use Arco Linux B with Xfce Desktop.

I have problems with brightness and volume Fn keys (hot keys). Brightness control is mapped on my keyboard as Fn+F5 (brightness decrease) and Fn+F6 (brightness increase) and volume control is mapped as Fn+ F10 (mute), Fn+ F11 (volume decrease), Fn+ F12 (volume increase).

However, when I press any of the key combinations, I have to wait between 30-60 seconds for my system to respond.

In addition, i can adjust volume and brightness if I use icons from the panel, only Fn keys do not work.

I have ASUS X550VX laptop, with Nvidia optimus system (Intel HD Graphics 530 + Nvida GM197M[GeForce GTX 950M]), 16 GB of RAM, and intel-i7-6700 HQ 2.6 GHz quad core processor.

Can someone please help me solve this problem?

Hello,

thank you for fast response. The solutions proposed on the page https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ASUS_N550JV do not work for me.

When i set kernel parameter "acpi_osi= " , brightness control key combinations Fn+F5 and Fn+F6 work; however, power manager than completely crashes. More specifically, I can not open it through menu or through panel icon. In addition, when i click on the power manager icon in the panel, my brightness automatically resets itself to maximum value but menu for adjusting brightness does not show itself. Moreover, i also can not shutdown or restart my machine through any other means but only through hard reboot by pressing and holding power button.

Regarding audio Fn key problem- pulse audio volume control and pulse audio equalizer are already installed on my machine, and they work perfectly fine. I can start them from menu and adjust volume through the panel icon. However, my Fn keys regarding audio control do not work. There is nothing on the page https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ASUS_N550JV regarding troubleshooting for Fn+F10, Fn+F11 and Fn+F12 key combinations for audio control.

Hello.

I had an HDD disk in my computer. A few days ago I bought an SSD disk, installed the system on it, and now all FN keys function perfectly. I booted the system a couple of times from HDD and SSD just to make sure that FN keys problem is HDD related and it is. On both disks I installed identical configuration of Arco Linux and the problem only appears on HDD disk.
