[OPEN] Calamares crash at end of install

Post by muttley » Tue Jan 14, 2020 4:39 pm

Greetings,

It seems I have a small issue. I've created an ArcolinuxB BSPWM iso and I'm trying to install it onto a system with one SSD. I keep getting this one error which halts the installation right at the very end.

I've copied the error message below:

Boost.Python error in job "bootloader".
Command 'grub-install --target=x86_64-efi --efi-directory=/boot/efi --bootloader-id=ArcoLinux --force' returned non-zero exit status 1.
Installing for x86_64-efi platform. grub-install: error: cannot find a device for /boot/efi (is /dev mounted?).

Traceback:
File "/usr/lib/calamares/modules/bootloader/main.py", line 457, in run
prepare_bootloader(fw_type)

File "/usr/lib/calamares/modules/bootloader/main.py", line 429, in prepare_bootloader
install_grub(efi_directory, fw_type)

File "/usr/lib/calamares/modules/bootloader/main.py", line 293, in install_grub
check_target_env_call([libcalamares.job.configuration["grubInstall"],

File "<string>", line 5, in <module>

I've tried quitting calamares and running gparted : then creating a new GPT disk. The bios reads the SSD as an UEFI disk.

Is there anything else I should be letting you know about here?

Best regards,

Phil

I have moved your post to the correct forum.

You are building the iso so ...

I was thinking about the bios setting... so your hardware settings

Check out https://arcolinux.com and the bios/efi menu.

Small glimmer...

Installing for x86_64-efi platform. grub-install: error: cannot find a device for /boot/efi (is /dev mounted?).
I think your problem is wrong disk partitioning scheme.
Reread this ArchWiki post.
My goal is a Linux laptop no worse than a MacBook.

See if you can install via the standard way - no manual partitioning.

Could well be a BIOS setting: not that I haven't gone through them all checking a few times. I'd like to "turn off" the UEFI in the bios and go with good old MBR: but I can't find that setting in the BIOS as yet. Its a Gigabyte Z77-3DH motherboard if anyone knows.

Actually I've only tried the auto settings: have not tried the manual partitioning yet.

Where I'm involved there's always scope for some daft mistake, but after I saw the error message I've been using gparted to just write a new GPT partition table and not setting any partitions: then I use the installer with the auto partition option.....and see the error again.

You will have some reading to do

IF BIOS is set correct, why don't you try an Arch Linux installation and try to build it up that way.
