I've been trying all day to do a new install of arcolinuxb (i3wm) on metal to no avail. So far, I've tried 2 different iso downloads (the 2 newest isos) and I keep running into the same error. Just as it is completing the install (easy or advanced) I get the following error.
the package manager could not prepare updates. The command <pre>pacman</pre> returned error code 1. arcolinux
My installation setup is as follows.
  • 2 harddrives - ssd for system and hdd for home
  • I'm selecting btrfs for my install, but I've also tried ext4
  • I've tried selecting the lts kernel and letting the installer select the main kernel
  • I saw a suggestion online about updating pacman, so I updated the list, but didn't install the updates
At this point, I'm not sure what else to try. Has anyone else seen this, or found a solution for this?

Can't replicate this error on real metal.
Using the Easy install approach.

I tested using the arcolinuxb-i3-v23.03.01-x86_64 ISO.

Code: Select all

pacman -Syu
Does that report any errors ?

Also check the calamares session log inside /root/.cache/calamares/session.log

Hey fennec. When running the Arch update, I'm assuming you mean within the live session? If so, I ran it multiple times across many install attempts and never received any errors. As for the Calamares logs, I will attempt a new install and update with my findings. For what it is worth, I decided to install Linux Mint to see if it would install and I had no issues. We will see how Arcolinux goes this time.

Just attempted another install. Here is a link to the installation report.

Another attempt, but this time successful. The one thing I did different from all my other attempts was to press the "update mirrors" button. I've never needed to this before and I believe Erik almost never does it either. Hope this can help others that are having the same issue.

If you look at the log

you have an internet problem

that has nothing to do with Arch Linux or ArcoLinux

figure out what to do in your country

there are isps or countries that ban certain ports and sites

best for you is 'always do an easy installation' aka no internet required and later install whatever you need like vpn tools
Learn, have fun and enjoy.
But first use the power of the Arch Wiki
